| Hayward's
History
Hayward lakes was originally a lumbar company town, founded
by Mr. Hayward over 100 years ago. Following the lumbering
era, the beautiful lakes attracted recreational ventures in
the form of resorts and private hideaways. Up north of
the tension zone, gangsters hid out far from the big
city, among the lakes. Here they were shielded by the woods
while they enjoyed abundant fishing and relaxation. Many stories
are still being told about the gangsters during this historic
period in the early days of Hayward.
